Ration cards not mandatory for identification.

The government has decided that administrative wings should not
insist on production of ration cards for identification purposes.
The state government and its agencies could consider other
valid documents like passport, driving licence, voters identity card,
bank pass book or identity card issued by income-tax authorities
for verifying the identity of individuals.
It is noticed that several government authorities insist on production
of ration cards either singly or along with other documents for the purpose
of identity for availing benefits of various public services.
This practice has led to claim of ration cards even by those who have
no intention of buying public distribution system (PDS) items from
fair price shops. The prevalence of such cards lead to leakage
of essential PDS items.
Considering that there are large number of false ration cards
circulating in the state, it is felt that the issue of the cards be controlled.
