NSIC to hold seminar on cluster development for SSIs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As Goa has the potential for starting small industries in sectors like
pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agro, food products such as cashew-nuts,
plastics etc., the National Small Industries Corporation is willing to
provide information pertaining to setting up of training institutes
and quality control centres.
Mr M L Prakasha, state branch manager of the corporation said that
it also provides access to national and international business leads,
joint venture opportunities, Internet related support, information on
government policies, rules, regulations, schemes and incentives,
besides credit support.
He was speaking to the newsmen in connection with a seminar on
'Cluster Development for Small Scale Industries in Goa' organised
by the NSIC, in co-operation with Goa Small Industries Association
(GSIA) which will be held in the city on December 10. The conference
will be attended by Mr B Mitra, regional director of NSIC, Mumbai and
Mr Keshav Kamat, president of GSIA.
NSIC, a government of India enterprise, under the ministry of SSI and
A&RI, has been set up with an objective to provide information and help
budding entrepreneurs about investment opportunities and finance options,
buyers, technical experts, tenders, bench-marking data, equipment and
raw material suppliers, inbound investments, trade fairs/ exhibitions,
buyer sellers meets, acceptable quality standards in international markets,
etc.
"NSIC also extends credit support, including financial assistance to SSIs
for long term requirement and short term requirement, hire purchase,
composite term loan etc," he briefed. "We can provide a loan up to
Rs 25 lakh without much paperwork, provided any project is feasible,"
Mr Prakasha added.
Meanwhile, the forthcoming conference to be addressed by experts and
participated by local small scale industrialists would also try to find
solutions to the problems of the entrepreneurs, by placing them
in various groups or clusters, as per their needs. The feedback received
from the participating entrepreneurs would be compiled and solutions
worked upon.
"The central government has a number of assistance schemes for the
small scale industrialists, however, there is ignorance about them,"
Mr Prakasha observed. NSIC has also organised a business meet on
'NSIC's new initiative' on December 9, in the city which would focus
on technology upgradation, quality assurance, marketing promotion,
technology business incubators, international co-operation, infomediary
services and credit supports.
"At present NSIC has around 1,500 working units as its members,
besides 4,500 other members. We would like to have a number of local
entrepreneurs as our members so that they can avail the benefits of our
services," Mr Prakasha stated.
He also lamented that very few Goans opt for setting up their industrial units
in the state, as compared to outsiders arriving in Goa. "Around 70 per cent
of the state's pharmaceutical units are owned by non-Goans," he observed.
