RIGHT TO INFORMATION COUNCIL MEET HELD

Panaji: February 20, 2003.

A meeting of the State Council for Right to Information Act was held today to find 
ways and means to strengthen the implementation of the Act, make it more result 
oriented and effective for public response.
 
In the absence of the Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar, Mr. P. Krishnamurthy, 
Secretary, General Administration chaired the meet organized at the conference Hall, 
Secretariat.

Mr. Rajesh Singh, Director of Information and Member Secretary of the Council, Mr. 
Damodar Naik, MLA, Mr. V.P.Shetye, Secretary Law, Mr. Pundalik Naik, Ms. Jyoti Dhond, 
Mr. Prakash Kamat, Ms. Heta Pandit, Dr. Vikram Patel, members were present on the 
occasion.

The member made valuable suggestion which  include reduction in the fees, intimation 
to the party within 72 hours or 3 working days if case is rejected, designate officers 
in concerned department to take up cases for immediate results, creation of second 
level authority to look  into the case, besides other matters of concern.

The members also felt the need for  an interaction with heads of offices to educate 
them on the provision of the Act and remove doubts, if any therein. They  suggested 
that a workshop be organized with involvement of officers designated for the purpose 
to be addressed by an eminent personalities familiar with the Act.

The next meet will be held soon, which the members felt should be held once a month.
