PARENTS DAY SHOW IN KUWAIT. Albino Fernandes one of the well known Goans in the Catholic Church circle is responsible for the formation of Holy Family Choir at Kuwait City Church. It was he who is responsible to create a very good impact of this Choir which is more popular than other Choirs though in his endeavours he was immensely helped by all his colleagues in the Choir. Recently this Choir has completed 22 years of its existence. While applauding the good efforts of Albino in initiating this Choir and helping to attain this peak, I congratulate the current management of Holy Family Choir to stage a good musical bonanza on 5th of this month in the Church Hall, Ground Floor, which was attended by the capacity crowd, free of charge as there was no entry fee for the attendees. The organizers spared no efforts in staging this show which lasted over two hours. As a chief guest Bishop of Kuwait Monsg. Frances Mechallef a Maltese citizen welcomed the attendees and expressed his satisfaction over the show. As a matter of interest earlier Bishop the late Monsg. Sanminguel a Spanish citizen and a great lover of Goan community always kept the door of Church Hall open for Goan, Konkani and any such function. During those days before the arrival of current Bishop, Church Hall was made accessible to such functions even for outsiders and by organising those functions the organizers have even donated cash money to the Church Coffers. Since the arrival of Monsg. Mecallef the door of Church Hall for such functions organized by people from outside the Church circle is closed. Many times it is beyond one’s capacity financially to organize their functions in big hotels and big popular halls. During those days Church hall was the sanctuary for people who cannot afford big halls outside Church Hall. But those days are over since the arrival of Monsg. Mecallef who may be having his own reasonS for stopping renting Church Halls for outside functions as earlier done by his predecessor. But things may change once new Bishop takes over Kuwait Church. In this musical evening different types of items were performed by Goans and others. The opening Chorus led by young Jonathan along with all the Choir Members created a good impact. Both the items “God Still Loves the World” and “Disco Deewane Dance” performed by lovely Esperanca and her troupe deserve compliments, so also “Medley Dance” and “Pop Dance“ by young Conchita and her troupe. The comedy duet performed by husband and wife Augusto Moraes and Gracy was well applauded by the audience. Bab Agnelo’s solo “Devan Nirmilam” was meaningful, so also “Visvasghat” by Lawry Fernandes. Well known Kuwait stage artiste Michael Desilva rendered his solo “Sezari” and “Mogreache Kolle” by Peter Franco. Besides others also performed their items not only in Konkani but also in English. Sanny de Quepem with Jane and other small children rendered a beautiful song on “Burgim Maim Pai Naslelim” The main item of the evening was the Comedy Skit in two parts – Laurel & Hardy – in English, written and directed jointly by Augusto Moraes and promoter of anti-Christian organization “To Nachlear Aum Nachona Tiatristanchi Sonvstha” Mario de Majorda. No doubt it produced peals of laughter in the Hall yet many among the audience have not taken it in good taste as they felt it emits some vulgarity in words and action. While doing such vulgar comedy the organizers must take into consideration the sanctity of the Church Area. All the participants in this skit performed their roles well but Margareth, Mario and Augusto deserve more compliments for performing appropriately. The slide display was done excellently. Musical score was provided by Shahu on organ and Francis Machado on Violin. As usual Jannet Franco e Fernandes with her silky voice compered the proceedings. A.
