World Tourism Day

World tourism day will be celebrated on September 27.
Could it be possible for the Government of India tourist office at Panaji
to remove the wild bushes and grass covering the tourism hoarding next to it.
The Goa tourism department may also do the same thing for the tourism boards
at Patto bridge and at various locations at Ribandar and Old Goa road to
enable
the travellers to read the matter displayed on them.

In case it is not possible for the tourism department to repair the
dilapidated
information boards at Kavlem, Mangueshi and other locations and to provide
domes
with bulbs on the tops of the poles standing on the Mandovi Promenade at
Panaji,
the same may be removed before September 27 so as to keep the location clean.

On the world tourism day, certificates of appreciation may be awarded
to the oldest tourist taxi owner/driver, approved tourist guide and others
in recognition of their contribution towards promotion of tourism in Goa.

Not Our Responsibility

IN his letter titled 'World Tourism Day' (LP, September 23), B G Khandeparkar
takes up the issue of removal of wild bushes and grass covering the tourism
hoarding
next to the Government of India Tourist office at Panaji.

Being the assistant director of the tourist office, I wish to inform the
public
that the office at Panaji is housed in rented premises in the Comunidade
building.
The overall maintenance, cleanliness (periodic or otherwise) is the sole
discretion
of the administrator of comunidades of the central zone.

We have taken up the issue of maintenance and cleanliness in the past
with various administrators who had been posted from time to time.
We were told that the comunidade does not have the funds to maintain
and repair the building.

We have now taken it upon ourselves to obtain a no-objection certificate
for external cleanliness, refurbishment and restoration of our part of the
building
that is still awaited from the administrator of the comunidades of central
zone.
