be one of the big themes of the New Year. Gordon Brown looked set to be the
face that launched a thousand Sipps - industry speak for self-invested
personal pensions. These plans caused excitement as it seemed as though they
would let people invest in housing through a tax- efficient wrapper. But in
his Pre-Budget Report Brown closed down a loophole allowing people to use
Sipps as a tax shelter for property. Francis Fernandes is Head of Actuarial

Association President Suresh Kalmadi said today ... Urging Goa to host the
2011 National Games, Kalmadi said if the state government showed interest in

Marmagoa Dockers Observe Martyrs' Day
1 Jan: People's Democracy. Workers of Vasco-da-Gama and Marmagoa paid their
homage on December 20 last to the two martyrs, Conceisaum Costa and Thomas
Fernandes, who were killed in the brutal police firing during the historic
seventy-day general strike of the dock workers in 1964.
