Muslim trader's shop set ablaze HERALD CORRESPONDENT QUEPEM, MARCH 7 — While the communal tremors at the epicentre in Curchorem and Sanvordem seem to have settled, its repercussions have spread to nearby Quepem, when the grocery shop belonging to a Muslim trader was set ablaze at Tank, Cup-Adne in Balli on Monday evening. According to police reports, miscreants set ablaze the grocery shop belonging to Shaik Abdul Ghani of Cup-Adne, destroying all the grocery products in the shop estimated at about Rs 95,236. Head Constable Taleker is investigating the incident. Shaikh Ghani is the local spiritual leader of the Muslim community in Tank at Cup-Adne. The entire Muslim community of Tank have fled to safer areas in view of the riots in Curchorem, Sanvordem and Quepem. Meanwhile, Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has convened a joint meeting with police officials, the deputy collector, Quepem Mamlatdar, leaders of the Hindu and Muslim communities and other citizens on Wednesday, at 10 am, to discuss ways to protect communal harmony in Quepem. -- TUMCHER AXIRVAD ASSUM; DEV BOREM KORUM.
