<If you happened to belong to the privileged class, you certainly enjoyed the good life and were duly rewarded for loyalty to the Portuguese colonial regime. The vast majority of the population, however, was illiterate, economically deprived and largely exploited.>

Dear Tonybab,

Once again, Greetings from here.

Don't mean to be disagreeeable (of all the people) with you - but ask IF Would it be OK if I asked the following:

1: On what reviewable (researchable) basis did you conclude that the Vast Majority of people in Goa were economically deprived (say in 1961)?

2: If the vast majority of the population was exploited, WHO exploited them?

3: How was the exploitation reversed (if at all) after 1961.

4: Would you say that for the average Goan family (without any person in the Merchant Navy or in the Gulf/Africa/ etc) it was/is easier to make ends meet in 1960 or in 2006?

Thank You

good wishes

jc

PS: I am re-reading your post where you suggest that we use the word "Absorbed" instead of Annexed/Invaded/Liberated etc. Not sure, but I might have something to post about that, this weekend.

For now.......There is another important matter from Chennai which merits to be a lead story on TGF this weekend. Have not seen much (i.e. zero) written about it in any Goan newspapers or India Abroad or even on the GoaNet/ Goa-Goans

Please do stay tuned.
