But Dr. Maria Aurora Couto's > comments on freedom of speech and the need for a secular pressed really > impressed me. RESPONSE: I concur !! That was an appropriate take on the sensational/commercial aspects of the world today. With an award-winning actor, Hanks, and award-winning director, Howard, and all this hungama - genuine and otherwise, the movie is bound to break the bank this week. Talking of movies, I caught a few scenes from a Hindi movie over a cup of tea 2 weeks ago. I've had to enquire about the name while I write this - Malamaal Weekly. It's about a lottery ticket winner in an obscure Indian village of yore. And there's a drunk living in the village called Antonio. I could only let out a chuckle about typical casting of a Christian as drunk, especially when some amongst us have spouted that only Christians know to maintain a 'joie de vivre' lifestyle. > I am surprised that our Mumbai Catholics can't find a more relevant > issue that would be worth their unto death hunger strike - like > cleaner air and water, safer roads, better quality of life for the > Dharavi people or for the kids on the street. RESPONSE: Unlike Catholics in Goa; Mumbai Catholics have to contend with several religions in Mumbai. Reminds me of an interesting article last month on the ghettoisation taking place in Mumbai based on religion. This has some secularists screaming. I will share the article it if it hasn't made the blue- bin yet. Nevertheless, I hope you caught Floriano's recent kerchief-less trek through Mumbai.....;-) I find it unbelieveable that Dharavi will soon morph into something other than the Dharavi that I've always dreaded to drive thru (especially on a 2-wheeler) while going East/West in Mumbai.
