NEW DELHI, APRIL 11: In what could cause a dent to the IAF image, an
investigation by the BBC has revealed that as many as 200 pilots of the
Indian Air Force wanted to quit.
'Poor working and living conditions and the difficulty of living apart from
their families' have been cited as reasons for their dissatisfaction. >>

<A 'culture of sycophancy being promoted by senior officers' makes it
difficult to work, according to frustrated pilots.>

<Has the expansion of the civil aviation sector and an increasing demand for
trained pilots in recent times have anything to do with the growing
exasperation of IAF pilots? Most likely so.

When asked by the BBC if higher salaries and a better lifestyle attracted
pilots to commercial airlines over the IAF, one of the Air Force pilots
responded, "What is wrong even if we do plan to become commercial pilots? We
have given the best part of our life to the country. I would also request
you to have a look at the lists of candidates applying for commercial
pilots' licenses. You would be shocked to find majority of those are
relatives of senior commanders, and in some case these seniors themselves.">
