Pereira Puraskar" at the hands of former Speaker and tiatr personality
Tomazinho Cardozo at the Mapusa Municipal Hall yesterday evening. In his
address, Tomazinho Cardozo lauded Thomas Stephens Kendr for selecting
Tendulkar, who has served Konkani for several years, particularly among the
romi reading Goan Catholic community. He also said that those who have
worked hard silently for the upliftment of the mother-tongue should be

GREAT GOAN FARM DECAY: To start with, the politicized 'land to the tiller
law' might have helped build (temporary) vote banks. But this has certainly
not made agriculture more productive in Goa. Over time, the tiller no longer
tills the land he suddenly came to own. The ownership makes it tempting for
him to sell fertile agriculture land to builders, set up petrol pumps on it,
use it to suck out large quantities of water, then sold for a few paise per
litre, convert it into a garbage dump, or just keep it fallow with an eye on
future possible 'conversion'. (Edit in Herald)

FROM AFRO-ASIAN.: I am collaborating with a musician from London, William
Hall Jr, on a piece of music, that we're working through the Internet. He
has composed a basic theme, and I'm composing and adding my own Indian tunes
to it. I'm excited about this, because William and I have never met, and
this is working out to be a real British-Indian collaboration across the
oceans. (Remo Fernandes in Herald Insight).

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! "I wonder the nature of people we're gullibly
throwing the red carpet to, and I'm wondering whether they'll respect, abide
and honour the law of the land in its totality. I'm wondering whether in our
desperate attempts to glamourise ourselves, are we short-changing the sanity
we've maintained even in our most trying moments, putting up with falling
systems." (Ethel da Costa in an open letter to Ms Veronica Kayla, who was in
Goa recently in connection with setting up Goa as the permanent site for the
International Film Festival Centre)
