This controversial thread has been painstakingly one of the lengthiest and—with no apparent end in sight —is by far boring readers to death. Has it added any value to Goanet/GoaNetters?
Wonder whether we have run out on “meaningful” issues or ideas to discuss that would in essence be beneficial to Goa and Goans? One reason why a majority of netters don’t post, is because some prowl like sharks waiting to attack (and to a large extent) even abuse the poster.
Goans have always had a penchant for confrontation and perpetuation of controversy. We see it in Goan politics; we can see it amongst netters. Some delight in instigating a controversial issue, provoke a few others, and then stay on the sidelines to watch the fun. On many occasions, if one doesn’t get his way, he will not stop short of attacking and begin abusing his fellow netter and will continue doing so until he has his last word.
I have been on Goanet almost since its inception, and have seen splits and formation of new e-groups (each with its own agenda —and intense rivalry with peer groups). The question is: can we as Goans come together on a ‘common platform’ to be of any service (as miniscule as it may be) for the good of Goa and the Goan community? We are blessed with the opportunity to reach fellow Goans to the far ends of the earth and unite; only if we have the will, tolerance and respect for each other —no matter what religion or rank we may belong.
I leave you with the following thought provoking questions by Norman Lawrence. Hope our RC friends and others will find them interesting:
"WHAT IF EVERYONE WERE LIKE ME?" by Norman Lawrence
[ In thinking about Ministry, and the importance of every person being involved in serving I asked myself this question:
"What If Everyone In The Church Were Like Me?"
Following are ten questions that came to my mind that I encourage you to feel free to use if you wish. They are simple questions that will speak volumes to those who simply "warm the pews/chairs" (or criticize from their armchairs), and those who are "laying it all on the line" in their service to the church.
(To be read slowly and thoughtfully...)
What would happen to the church if everyone were like me?
What would happen if everyone had the same desire to serve as me?
What would happen if everyone had the same attitude as me?
What would the church be like if everyone were as friendly as me?
What would happen if everyone gave the same percentage of their income (contribution) as me?
What would happen if everyone spoke about the leadership like I do?
What would happen if everyone had the same concern for souls as me?
What would happen if everyone attended church with the same frequency as me?
What would happen if everyone had the same burden for World Missions as me?
What would happen if everyone had the same devotional life as me?
ELEVENTH QUESTION: Would the Church have Revival, or be struggling for Survival?]
And add to the ten above:
What can you do to improve the situation (other than criticize, curse, abuse, offend others)?
Best wishes,
Joe Vaz
