Agnel Pilar and Otis register narrow wins
Dubai : AVC Otis and Fr. Agnel Pilar scored hard-fought wins against Dramapur
and SFX Old Goa to be joint leaders in Group C at the Pehla Cup All Goa inter-
village soccer tournament yesterday.

While AVC Otis came back from a goal to beat Dramapur 2-1, Fr. Agnel Pilar had
to wait till the fag end of their game to put it across Old Goa by a solitary
goal at the Iranian Sports Club ground.

In a fast-paced encounter, Old Goa and Pilar battled through the opening
session and remained goalless. Both sides had their chances, but their
strikers seemed to run out of ideas once in the goal area.

In the second half, Pilar opened the scoring on the half hour when Andrew
Moniz tapped in a Neves D'Souza cross from the right flank.

That goal proved to be the match-winner as Pilar managed to weather off all
Old Goa moves towards their goal. Moniz was rightly awarded the Man of the
Match.

In the second game, a young Dramapur side stunned the spectators when they
went into the lead in the very third minute after Naval Fernandes volleyed
home to finish off a fine move from the right flank.

However, the seasoned AVC lads fought back four minutes later when Alexo
Fernandes equalised through a free-kick. AVC then went all out for the match-
winner and were rewarded when Santano Oliveira found the net in the 17th
minute.

Dramapur tried their best to equalise, but failed. Naval Fernandes was
adjudged Man of the Match.
