Yesterday's TOI had a brief report titled "141 copters, but only one flight inspector". India has nearly 54 (civilian?) helicopter operators who own a total of 141 helicopters. The story of military helicopters is something else. To start with one must get hold of the contents of the report of the Kaushik committee which was appointed to look into issues of helicopter operations and safety following the crash of the craft which took the life of a Lok Sabha Speaker. Helicopter accidents the world over have been reduced by nearly 75% in two decades.
