goans have been emigrating in significant numbers since atleast the 1830's. they migrated to all parts of the *british* empire: mumbai, karachi, rangoon, east africa etc. prior to 1961, about 20%(?) of goa's 500K population were residing in mumbai. I do not want to make judgements, I just note the facts.
there is a paper from 1978 by Teotonio de Souza analyzing the entrepreneurship angle of goan society. It is still relevant today. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/1503/hindus_goa.htm most people ( and goans ) do well when opportunities are available. it is for us to create those opportunities. goans specially catholics are unable to cope well with economic pressure. we must analyze and offer solutions to the problems we meet. that is the way to go. I hope we agree on this. agnelo > Message: 12 > Subject: RE: [Goanet]RE: COLACO > Date: Mon, 8 Sep 2003 22:09:44 +0100 > From: "Colaco-Dias, Paulo" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > If you can also explain why Goans are leaving Goa in > large numbers and > why Goans only do well outside Goa, perhaps we can > continue our > discussion. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
