goans have been emigrating in significant numbers
since atleast the 1830's. they migrated to all parts
of the *british* empire: mumbai, karachi, rangoon,
east africa etc. prior to 1961, about 20%(?) of goa's
500K population were residing in mumbai. I do not want
to make judgements, I just note the facts. 

there is a paper from 1978 by Teotonio de Souza
analyzing the entrepreneurship angle of goan society.
It is still relevant today.

most people ( and goans ) do well when opportunities
are available. it is for us to create those
opportunities. goans specially catholics are unable to
cope well with economic pressure. we must analyze and
offer solutions to the problems we meet. that is the
way to go. I hope we agree on this.
