Dear Goanetters, This appears to be a good suggestion. Maybe the TSKK,Porvorim, can be funded to do the needful.
If I am not mistaken,Garo,Khasi[languages of the two main tribes in Meghalya state] and the Naga dialects are all written in Roman script. They are ,however, not accepted by the Sahitya academy and not included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The "Indian script" requirements for this needs to be considered. Admittedly, one can get a wider readership in the English speaking world[including Goa] through the Roman script...once it is standardized for spellings. The nouns, verbs and sentence structure will not change with the script. Can we go back to our "Mai bhas". The "officialese" is more goanese than Konkani that we learnt to speak from our mother.....Yagnik,dhaum'shirem,spurad....make no sense to the people who know and love to speak konkani. Viva Konkani.Viva Goa Miguel P.S. Alternatively,we should have the guts like the Nagas to adopte English as the official State language. They speak their own tribal dialects...and transact official business in English. I am yet to see an official invitation printed only in the 'official language' of Goa State. No guts? No pressure to do it ,either! > > Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2003 19:22:27 +0530 > > From: goasuraj <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > KONKANI IN ROMAN SCRIPT: CASE FOR NATIONAL INTEGRATION > > The Goa Su-Raj Party endorses the view expressed by Thomas Stephens Konkani > Kendra that the Roman script for Konkani would be more practical and > viable for the standardization of Konkani. > > This standardization of *Hindi in the Roman Script* has helped the Armed Forces to bring convenience for all its personnel in India. > It is time that Goa steps out confidently to accept and adopt the Roman Script for Standardisation of Konkani.
