This seems to be a rather interesting concept. Kindly get in touch with Jessica if you could help in any way. Can technology help to give a voice to people who need it so badly? Maybe Goa too needs something like this. Alito Siqueira of the Goa University and team have been working on parallel; maybe Cecil Pinto could give some more details. FN

MAKING FILMS. MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

In 1999 the World Bank asked 60,000 people living on less than a dollar a day to identify the biggest hurdle to their advancement. It wasn't food, shelter or health care. It was access to a voice. By empowering people to tell their stories, video gives a voice to the voiceless, and to the people who fight for them.

Video Volunteers is a movement of people who believe in the power of media to bring the world closer together and cause people to take action. Working with the Creative Visions Foundation and Drishti Media Collective, Video Volunteers uses the now ubiquitous video camera to accelerate social change at the most basic level: To fix wells, educate children, and fight for social justice and women's rights.

Video Volunteers matches filmmakers with non-governmental organizations around the world for two- to four-month stays. These "Video Volunteers," equipped with cameras, tapes and computer software, produce films for the NGO's advocacy, fundraising, training and community awareness efforts. The Video Volunteers also train staff in video production. This enables the NGO to continue to produce basic videos that make their organizations more successful.

Dear Fred,

Hello! I wanted to draw your attention to our recently launched website,
www.videovolunteers.org. As a result of your last posting of Video Volunteers, I was contacted by Samarthan and we may be doing a project with them. So thank you! It's great to be part of your network.

I'm writing to see if you might personally know people interested in working on a few of our projects.

1) Do you know any freelance video editors? We need someone for about 4
weeks between Dec. and March.

2) Do you know any freelance camera people?

More generally, I was wondering if you could let me know about any and all
networks like yours where I can find or connect with Indian filmmakers
and/or NGOs. As well as looking for NGOs, I reach out to filmmakers with
opportunities for them. So I need the "bytesforall" for filmmakers! These would be internet forums, newsletters, university networks (for film schools or social work) etc. Basically, I want to get as clued up as possible about how the Indian films and NGOs network!

Thanks so much for any help.
