Makes me recall a Dr Cui post-lib caper:

Happening to be crossing, from Panjim to Betin, in the same ferry with Vassantrao Dempo, he courteously bowed through the car-window and extende a hand in greeting to VD who promptly rolled up the pane accompanied by a great show of disdain:

Unfazed, Cui bellowed: Aum soglem somzotam: tum asloi Dompó...attam zala Dompe...ani, falea zatoloi Dempung... hea sounsarant soglem cuuuui....

It was at the time when China had conquered vast swathes of northern India (still firmly held by them) and was threatening rest of the country.

I was fortunate to be in that ferry.

Viva Ano Novo ... soglem cui!

From: "Teotonio R. de Souza" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> When and why did Lourenço become Lawrence? Is it one of those cases I had mentioned earlier of Goans trying to pass off as anglo-indians to gain jobs in public services in British India? Are we now seeing a home-coming? I had mentioned Couto / Coutinho becoming Coutts, Dias becoming Days, etc. There are Lobow in Madras. They were Lobo originally Lobo.
