Dear Dias,

I normally avoid your irrational messages sent to me unsolicited. The
trailing message is one among these. In reply to your message, may I
respectfully remind you that I am a citizen of India, and alike you I have
been conferred full rights to employment throughout India, which I have earned
through fair and open competition. Further, I pay taxes in the form of house
taxes, excise duty, road tax and all other state taxes in Goa similar to you.
Living in Goa for past over 31 years I am proud to be Goan Indian. Are you
not an Indian?

Your letter is a burning example of hate speech, and it does not undermine the
role people like us are playing for the development of Goa and our India.
Please be advised that I am the team who has helped the Govt. of Goa for CRZ
demarcation, Mondovi Bride etc. What is your contribution to the development
and progress of Goa. You were employed in a central govt Institution, and your
full salary was born by the Govt. of India.

I am amazed to learn that after paying all these taxes, I am still been able to
transfer 95% percent at my salary to Delhi. Such comments are deplorable

I am sorry that I entered in a debate. I did so because you marked the said
mail to me.

Please refrain from sending any mail to me in the future, because if one is
not tolerant to the opinion of others, he has no right to send them any
unsolicited mail.

Best regards,

Onkar S. Chauhan

Subject: MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT MUST DECONGEST PANJIM FOR A SMART CITY

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEAR CHAUHAN

Your letter created rift among people in the internet/GOANET. What myself and
Sidharth, the present MLA of Panjim, were talking is just about the Smart City
for Panjim development.

My worry was that these defence establishment are creating problem for Panjim
as well as to Goans and not for migrants who come to Goa like you who enjoy
our hospitality. Do not border about the inconveniences cause to us, your
salary 95% is perhaps transferred to Delhi where you come from, poor Goans
have to pay through their nose, for your comforts with higher taxes for us on
account of migrants menace. Only problem became when Sidharth deviated and
gave support on military people and the civilians was put in low category. (
refer my letter to Sidarth). Even Parrikar who is our former MLA and
Opposition Leader and now Defence Minister has argued and always fought in the
assembly that these establishment must leave Panjim to give place for
Panjimites for decongesting of city and also he has requested former Defence
Minister A.K Antony of Congress but so called HIGH COMMAND whether BJP or
Congress who did nothing to Goa's holistic plan. Even former Municipality
Mayors like Ashok Naik and Surendra Furtado did so much and written many
letters to Goa Government and to Parrikar to pursue the matter. At that point
of time I started arguing it that civilians not only doctors, engineers
scientists , professors but now I say, also nurses , technicians, workers who
collect garbage and get diseases etec, farmers and all low paid poor people
are suffering in Goa etc etec.

Do you all think that Garbage collector, fire brigade personal, and
politician’s car sirens seen everyday zooming on our roads, are they giving a
good sleep to us?

Now, since you pocked your nose into this affair when was not required, your
sentiments on military, AC rooms, OROP which we are yet to get and not sure and
may not get at all, etc, and we get I will salute you, but the issue of
Panjim on defense establishment has blown up out of proportion by you and
Sidharth. I have nothing wrong on military people who I am also concerned
about the total welfare of all Indians and not section of the society but
holistic development is required for everybody.

I cannot and will never insult the soldiers as I am Indian as Military is also
important to me and always will be.

 Stephen Dias, Dona Paula

Concerned Senior Citizen of Goa.

Shri Chauhan,
Your nation was created by the British, who left it in misery. Then you came
and invade our place and now tell us that your soldiers are sacrificing for
Goa. In fact your soldiers are having a jolly good time in the Goans sunshine.

Dear Dias,

I am sad to read this message. With due regret I inform you that you have
insulted the brave army men of the country. You are also getting OROP now. I
feel one should be rather sensitive. The piece of land belongs to our nation
which does provides all the facility to Goa as well.

I feel you should respect the army and all other defense personnel who remain
awake in hostile conditions for better part of their life. Please compare your
salary and comfort of an AC rooms before commenting on others.

One must salute the supreme selfless sacrifice of soldiers, who leave behind
their entire family to suffer.

Regards,

Onkar S. Chauhan

My dear Stephen,

While I understand any prevailing frustrations, I was unhappy with the tone of
your post, esp the heading. Accordingly, as much as I am ambivalent about the
often gaseous and self-serving spouting of politicians, I believe that both Mr.
Kuncalienkar and Mr. Chauhan have made very valid points.

Surely, the citizens have to be appropriately consulted before land is taken
away from them. However, one cannot and should not be offensive towards the
very individuals who are charged with the responsibility of protecting us.

That brings me to three other points: (1) Members of the armed forces are NOT
the only ones who face dangers while the rest of us 'Sleep in Air Conditioned
Comfort'. Doctors and other health care professionals also expose themselves
to severe life-threatening infections every single day and night. And so do
their families! Similarly, Garbage disposal , Electricity and Construction
workers (to name a few) face enormous dangers for the rest of us. (2) It is
important that we look after them too in a similar fashion. (3) Just imagine
what sort of country (and Life) we would have had without ALL these 'workers'.

The question is: When last have you heard a politician take up their (these
workers) cause ?

Thank you all for your attention.

PARRIKAR MUST GIVE PANJIM ITS DUE

Dear Sidharth,
Panjim M.L.A.

( reply to your mail)

Thanking you very much for noting that I am a senior citizen and also
recognizing my age and experience.
You must realize that it is the hard work and sacrifice of the generation past
which includes me and your dear father (when I consider him GREAT), that you
are able to come in power and represent Panjim. Don’t go “GAGA” about the
defense forces that the media and you politicians tend to put in high esteem
and create an undue hype.
For their contribution, if any, they get lots of taxes exemption, privileges,
facilities for free medical and Hospital expenses, land etc etc.
Today, these men have fought for their own benefits and got One Rank One
Pension (OROP). They have insulted us and Mr. Manohar Parrikar in particular by
burning their medals.
As an inexperience youngster you may hold armed forces in esteem, but sadly you
don’t seems to realize the sacrifices put by us (the civilians of India and
Goa), which has made the generation next and these armed forces have a
comfortable living, and get due compensation in terms of salary, perks and
other facilities which we as Senior Citizens do not get, once we are retired.
Do scientists, professors, doctors, engineers, and even priests like Fr.
Bismarque of Goa doing civilian services get free or subsidized alcohol, free
medical Hospital treatment, free housing in defense colonies, once we are kick
out? We have to fend for ourselves and many of you do not care to recognize our
services. Civilians have lost their arms, their eyes, their legs, and I
particularly quote about my own wife who worked on pollution and detecting
mercury poisoning in laboratory analyzing on polluted waters in Goa . She
worked in Chemistry department also as scientist in NIO, and only I have to
look after her on her paralytic conditions, people have lost their lives on
field visits during research survey projects. Many professors have been
disfigured by chemical explosion while conducting research activities. It is
not a case, few soldiers suffering tragedy; it is hundreds of scientists, who
suffer unrecognized. They get no medal, so they cannot burn them even if they
wish to and insult the country,. Our dear Fr. Bismarque did more than a soldier
for Goa and the country, but sadly let alone India even Goans will not
celebrate his martyrdom and he will like other civilian martyrs will be left
unrecognized. Do we recognize the contribution of Prof Dabodkar, Prof Kalburgi,
Prof Pansari, and our NIO ex-Director Dr S.Z. Qasim, who laid down their lives
for achieving a rational, enlightens India ?
It is high time that you take out your focus from military men and also give
due recognition to scientific community and others who are victims in the cause
of development of the country. If India has gone to Mars, if India has gone to
Antartica, and if India has come up in the green, white, blue and pink
revolution it is the hard work of these non glorified men, called scientists,
professors, engineers, and priests etc.
So, it is high time that the defense forces are shown their true place and they
occupy their own niche, why make people of Panjim suffer when these armed
forces from Panjim has huge tracks of land in Bambolim, Merces, Nerul, Vasco,
Dabolim, Navelim, etc etc; we in Panjim are suffering acutely due to parking
problem, garbage, casino menace, and also now military intrusion. And you
unwittingly support them. Get out of your shell dear Panjim M.L.A and please
support.

Stephen Dias
Senior Citizen and Panjimites
