that is really good work Joe .. keep it up & from what you have described.. it does really look like a "paid press conference"... not only because you were not allowed to ask... but.. there were no strong questions asked!!!!
also read about he local volunteer who told how he had personally recovered majority of the bodies,.... but was not allowed to do so after some days!!!!! there is a big cover up going on ... a lot of people to be blamed & one "scapegoat" arrested, but the 1st person who should be arrested was the one who gave permission for construction by hill cutting & on paddy fields... this is a warning to all the other such structers regards Aaron From: JoeGoaUk <joego...@yahoo.co.uk> Sent: Tue, 14 Jan 2014 16:04:12 To: "goa...@goanet.org" <goa...@goanet.org> Subject: [GOAN-NRI] [Goanet] The Canacona Tragedy and Joe Goa [Goanet] The Canacona Tragedy and Joe Goa Thank you guys for your supporting feedback Well, why I was on this case? I felt the authority concerned did not handle the situation properly or humanely. Whoever they are, they are human beings first. Imagine, what they must have gone through during last few seconds of their life or whether they had any time to say ‘Deva Pau’ Coming back to JoeGoaUk’s work.. It’s not so easy now a day to carryout such in-depth or investigative work just like that. Not just because I am getting older day by day but more so because I do not have ID of my own, often, one may look at me as an intruder or even terrorist for mine is not a known face. My nature of work may be like that of a reporter, journalist or photo journalist or online correspondent etc. Or I may be one of them but ‘unknown’. I do not have press media accredited card or do not enjoy the related privileges offered to such profession. I blame no one but me. Few days ago, within Canacona Ruby Residency site, an informal press briefing going on out in the open near Adl. Collector desk (Main press conference was to take place 2 hours later same venue for which national TV etc were also present). There were 5-6 local reporters / media men and others about 25 including me. One reporter asked collector ‘ Any FIR have been filed against those responsible..? ‘Yes’ was the reply from the collector. Seeing that no one asking the next relevant question, I uttered ‘Any arrests so far?’, the collector said ‘I don’t know’. At this time a reporter loudly said ‘only the press should ask questions and nobody else’ then he told collector with same voice ‘do not answer anyone other than the press’ At this time I was about to open my mouth ‘why? Is this a paid press briefing something?’ but held back fearing all camera would start focusing on me if I did that. I find the reporter rather rude or questioning the Govt. officers/Ministers is prerogative of press people only? Common Citizens have no right? 2 days later, after gaining access to the residency with visitor batch, I did try to gain access to the collapsed site hoping to take some close-up pics. The police man on the desk said no one is allowed not even press (when I said I am press) but saw some with cameras let off by them. Third attempt, 11thJan., I was lucky to gain access to the collapsed site. Took out camera to click photos, a medium built man in plain cloth came to me and asked ‘Tumi konn?’ (Who are you), pointing my pinned batch (issued at the gate) I said ‘Press’. Went to different place (away from his sight) and quickly clicked few pics. Then again I went at the basement of the standing building where there were few others including policemen watching the retrieving body operation. When I focused my camera on the remaining uncleared collapsed portion, the same man from a distance stopped me in the presence of all including rescue workers. I gave up and came out with the little footage i captured. These are just the few incidences related to the topic. Despite all this, I love what I am doing.
