10-rupee gang is back in Goa

PANAJI: The dreaded '10-rupee note' gang is back in the city and
hoodwinked yet another victim after they stole valuable items worth Rs
80,000 from a jeep parked near the Velhos Filhos building on Friday
night.
It may be recalled that this gang had duped several people last year
using the modus operandi of placing 10-rupee notes on the road near
parked vehicles, and informing their drivers that their money had
fallen. After their victim's attention was diverted, the gang used to
steal valuable items from the open vehicle and then flee.
On Friday night, the next victim zeroed in on was the company manager of
Minescape Earthmovers Pvt Ltd. and his driver.
Panaji police said that the manager, Sanjay Alberto, had gone shopping,
while the driver Raju Kurup parked the Scorpio jeep near the Velhos
Filhos building. At around 8.10 pm, an unknown man approached Raju and
told him that some money belonging to his owner had fallen on the road.
Raju fell for the yarn, and started picking up the 10 rupee notes, while
the unknown man quickly took away items kept in the jeep.
