The young boys dressed as kings distribute gifts during the whole night, but then have right to collect money next morning from the visited houses to recover their costs. Curiously, the young boys are permitted to smoke during two feast days. Possibly some Portuguese from this area took the feast to Cansaulim in the early days of the Portuguese rule and when the Jesuits controlled the parishes of Salcete. --------------------- Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2007 06:30:00 +0000 (GMT) From: JoeGoaUk Cansaulim 3 kings feast, Mapusa Feast O L of Milagres & Hindu Devotees (see pics) One of the reasons one can see many Hindu devotees on the feast day up on the Hill of Cuelim (Three Kings Feast or O L of Remedious) on January 6th every year, is that Hindu believes this Saibinn is one of the 7 Hindu sisters who was converted to Catholism by Portuguese. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **** WWW.GOANET.ORG ** C O M M U N I T Y ** A N N O U N C E M E N T **** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Save Goa Campaign / Goa Bachao Abhiyan Report all violations of Hill-cutting, Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and other Land Use violations to 24-hour Helpline +91 9822684372 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
