Bicholim, July 29: About 35 cases of Chikungunya have been reported
in Mayem, prompting the sarpanch to seek the immediate intervention of
the health department.

According to Panch Anand Naik, at least 35 Chikungunya cases are
detected in the panchayat area.

“We have asked the health department to look into the matter and avoid
spreading of the disease,” said Naik.

According to reports, several cases were found at Kelbaiwada,
Tirthabag, Jambhulbaht and other areas of Mayem.

Mayem panchayat has asked the PHC to take appropriate steps in the
matter. The PHC has decided to hold a special detection camp in the
village on Monday.

It may be recalled that earlier, two cases were reported in Mayem area
and the health department had taken steps to curb the menace.
