Today's Times of India has a report on the Benaulim meet which was a grand success. And right next to this is Babu Azgaonkar waxing eloquent on the government's right to do something totally opposed to people's wishes (for some reason this is not in the online edition). He even goes so far as to say that if the gram sabhas reject a proposal, the project promoters should come to the government, which will approve it.
So the battle lines are now getting clearly drawn. Who will triumph, the people or the government? This morning my son said he thought the government is supposed to do the people's bidding? Well, not any longer it appears. So the people will just have to show the government who's boss. -- Question everything -- Karl Marx
