NGO to hold meet on growing communal incidents at Margao HERALD REPQRTER MARGAO, JULY 2 Newly-formed city-based Citizens for Secularism and Communal Harmony has said the administration was found wanting in dealing with Friday's communal flare up with a heavy hand. The organization has called for a public meeting on July 4 at 4 pm at Adharsh hall, Margao to reach out to the people concerned over growing communal incidents in the Commercial capital. A three-member Fact Finding Committee under the Chairmanship of Edwin Pinto, Prof Harish Nagvenkar and Asif Hussain are its other members. Prof Joan Rebello is the Honorary Secretary. Addressing a press conference, Shridhar Kamat said the response of the administration to Friday's communal flare up fell below the expectations of the general public. "We don't intend to demoralize the police force by saying that they were found wanting. The administration headed by the district Collector, G P Naik and SP, South Shekhar Prabhudessai ought to have pre-emptive the situation from going out of hand", Kamat said. He said the organization will seek the suggestions of all communities and groups as part of the fact finding mission, and made it amply clear that the group is not affiliated to any political party or organization. "The fight which took place at Rumdamol should have been treated as a law and order problem", he said, adding "we the citizens now question this fight between individuals was converted into communal tension and why was the scene shifted from the Housing Board to Margao". According to Kamat, this is the third time, beginning with the Curchorem riots that attempts are made to make Margao the focus of communal tension.
