Christians thank Chief Minister Modi

AHMEDABAD (ICNS) -- Christian groups in Gujarat have
thanked state Chief Minister Narendra Modi for not
permitting the Vishwa Hindu Parishad from holding a
Hindu rally in the trouble-prone Dangs district on
Christmas Day.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh had planned to hold a Hindu sammelan
and the Guru Golwalkar birth centenary celebrations on
December 25 in Dangs.

But upon an order from Chief Minister Modi, District
Collectors of the Dangs and Bhavnagar refused
permission to hold the sammelan. Moreover, the police
maintained tight security in the Christian-dominated
areas, particularly the tribal district of the Dangs,
which has a history of Hindu-Christian clashes during
Christmas celebrations.

The All-India Christian Council thanked Chief Minister
Modi for taking “the strong stand against the Sangh
Parivar to allow the Christians in the State celebrate
Christmas peacefully on Monday.”

AICC joint secretary Samson Christian said that
following the request by Christian
organisationsSimilarly, the Guru Golwalkar birth
centenary celebrations was also shifted on the advice
of the Bhavnagar District Collector.
