TIATRIST TONY CALL CONDOLED. As announced yesterday in this forum, Kuwait Konknni Kendr (KKK) organised an extra ordinary meeting in Kuwait City yesterday at 8.00 p.m. and remembered the late Tony Call. As I wrote yesterday Tony Call was responsible for laying down a firm foundation for Tiatro in Kuwait. His contribution to the development and promotion of Tiatro in Kuwait is second to none. He cooperated with all the tiatrists whether he liked them personally or not for the promotion of this beautiful art. He never introduced any commandment of the sort "To Aslear Aum Nachona". His contribution was pure for the love of Tiatro. Even if any one said "Taka Ghalinkani", he would not agree. On the contrary he would aggue saying application of personal grudges against fellow tiatrists will kill Tiatros in Kuwait. And those who apply such grudges and also the supporters of such persons are enemies of Tiatro. Tiatrists who were unknown he made them known in Kuwait and thru Kuwait elsewhere. He had dynamism in this particular field. If any Tiatrist is to be rewarded for his superlative contribution in the promotion of Tiatro in Kuwait then it must be none other than Tony Call. In Goa there are many organisations recognisded and unrecognised by the Goa Government, these organisations must come forward and bestow on Tony Call postumuously a reward befitting his excellent work for the cause not only of Tiatro but also for the cause of Konkani. It was not an easy task to see Konkani on Kuwait TV. It was an impossible task for any of the other tiatrists in Kuwait but not for Tony Call and he made it possible. For this excellence he should be rewarded. Konkani Associations in Goa must raise their heads and recognise the contributions of Goans done outside Goa and India. Just because they have done something for the cause of Tiatro and Konkani and Goa from outside Goa they should not be treated as unknown. They may be unknown in Goa but their work is not unknown. They made Goa, Konkani and Tiatro known outside Goa and this fact should be acknowledged and rewarded suitably. I strongly feel that the contrubution of Tony Call should be recognisded. I dont expect anything worthwhile from Nagri Konknivadis because they have hatred and deslike for Romovadis but our brothers and sisters in Romi circle like Dalgado Academy and others should do something for this man who inspite of being small did big job beyond the imagination and capacity of many of the present day Kuwait based tiatrists whose only intelligence lies in the motto "if Comrade Napoleon says Yes It must be yes" without analysing the fact that what Comrade Napolean said is right or wrong. Tony Call always challenged the brute might of the destructive tiatrists in Kuwait. When he first time brought Alfred Rose and his wife Rita to Kuwait there was a coup made against him by some ingredients in Tiatrists circle but he overcame all with ease. He was the man who could unite the people for the cause and not devide. Today we are lacking amidst us such tiatrists who are uniting tiatrists for the development of Tiatro. Today we are having more selfish and destructive tiatrists. This was against the principle of Tony Call whose love for Tiatro was extreme. This is my speech I delivered during the condolence meeting yesterday.
The others who spoke loudly and firmly in my support highlighting the importance of Tony Call in the promotion of Tiatro in Kuwait were Luis Cardoso a member of KKK and Elvino Rodrigues the president of KKK Both these KKK stalwarts are aware of the activities of Tony Call towards the development of Tiatro. Rosary Ferns in his speech said though being a late comer to Kuwait he saw very little of Tony Call on the Stage but he said he heard a lot of him about his contribution in the promotion of Tiatro and even once saw Tony Call performing in one of the Tiatros in Goa. Rosary also pointed out the songs Tony Call recorded with Alfred Rose and Rita Rose and complimented him. He even suggested that an annual award should be given to the best Tiatrist in Kuwait in the name of Tony Call to keep his memory alive. The meeting concluded with a prayer conducted by Luis Cardoso for the soul of Tony Call. His funeral was done today in Mumbai. May the soul of Tony Call Rest In Peace. A.
