Dhengllo Divali always reminds of ‘dhengllo’ As it was started soon after the Divali say 3 days later. A group of say a dozen people used to go house to house with ‘olotor’ / box or ghomtti on one’s head or the same supported with two long bamboo sticks and carried over two dancing men’s shoulders.
Dhegllo oe Dhengddo group was dancing or marching to the popular tune of Shigmo i.e. Ghum, ghum, Gumche kattar ghum.. for this they had a drum or dhol and ‘rangtang’ They used to visit house to house (usually Hindus). We heard this dhol beat from far away and run to watch it. Most interesting (and the essential) part of the Dhegllo was a ‘deuchar’ A man dressed completely tight fit black robe covered from head to toe, long sleeved with black gloves (typical ‘deuchar’ dress of the time including the one used in Carnival Folk plays). It even had 2 tiny soft horns (Xingam) and a long red tongue falling out. It had long tail too, the devil often carry it in his hand and he too danced to the tune of the dholes. As kids, this is what we were interest in – The Deuchar. I don’t think this tradition is now continued nor I knew it’s significance. Anyone? Dhole/Rangtang are seen in this pic The first two These are the modern ones though http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk13/2371089928/sizes/l/ Dhol usually has one single heavy stick to beat where as Rangtang (a sort of large snare drum) has two sticks to beat Some shigmo drum beats etc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGy9LIb6Lbc joego...@yahoo.co.uk for Goa & NRI related info... http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/ For Goan Video Clips http://youtube.com/joeukgoa In Goa, Dial 1 0 8 For Hospital, Police, Fire etc _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ _/ _/ tambdimati: the Goa review is a community blog of original _/ art, writing, music, news and commentary from and about the _/ smallest state in the subcontinent. check out the newest _/ member of the Goanet family daily at _/ http://www.tambdimati.com. _/ _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/
