The Dhol is an earthy two sided drum, a necessary accompaniment to Punjabi dance specially the Bhangra.
Rani Taj is a pretty 22 year old who has been playing the Dhol since she was 8 years old, learning from 2 separate Dhol masters. She was born in Britain of Kashmiri Muslim parents but is popular with both Indian and Pakistani Punjabi audiences. She tours the Indian sub-continent, the Gulf countries, North America and indeed everywhere Punjabi music is appreciated. Here she is in a New York City recording session, explaining the music.
