Mickky’s move most foul, Alemao tells emissary

HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, OCT 4 – Enraged by the filing of disqualification petition against him
by a ministerial colleague, PWD Minister Churchill Alemao today raised the
issue with All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary in-charge of
Goa desk B K Hariprasad who arrived here today.
In fact, he displayed his resentment at the Idd Milan function hosted by Chief
Minister Digambar Kamat at his official bungalow here this evening.
Accompanied by his younger brother – Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao
– Churchill was closeted with Hariprasad for a long time.
He is learnt to have told the emissary that this gross indiscipline in the
Congress-led coalition shouldn’t be taken lightly.
He has also said that filing of the disqualification petition by Tourism
Minister Mickky Pacheco (NCP) against him and Reginaldo Lourenco is a big
conspiracy not just against him, but also against the Congress-led government.
The PWD minister suspects that some senior Congress leaders, including those
who are expecting early assembly polls, are behind the move.
He is also understood to have said that his detractors — who are demanding that
Joaquim be dethroned and PWD divested — cannot be allowed to have their way by
making use of the disqualification petition against him.
There were rumours making the rounds that the axe may fall on Joaquim if the
High Command wants to induct Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar in the Cabinet.
Sources however said that the High Command would not go for any major changes
so soon.
Sources in the government said that Churchill requested Hariprasad to take up
the issue of indiscipline at the highest level. He is also learnt to have said
that if such a situation had happened in other States, the minister concerned
would have been sacked.
“The chief minister cannot keep quiet in such matters,” he is learnt to have
said.
During the deliberations, GPCC chief Subhash Shirodkar was also present.
Among others who attended the function were Urban Development Minister Jose
Philip D’Souza, Education Minister Babush Monserrate, MLAs Pandurang Madkaikar,
Nilkant Halarnkar, Agnelo Fernandes.

October 3, filed a petition before the Speaker seeking disqualification of PWD
Minister Churchill Alemao and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco under Xth
