Ekvat to perform in Goa: Shri Faleiro

Commissioner for NRI Affairs, Shri Eduardo Faleiro has said that the office of Commissioner, NRI Affairs has invited "Ekvat" a group of Goan artistes based in Portugal formed more than two decades ago to visit India in the month of June 2011 and perform in association with the Indian Centre for Cultural relations. The group consists of about 20 musicians, singers and dancers. They will perform as follows:

Panaji     -   June 3
Margao     -   June 4
Bangalore  -  June 7
Mumbai     -  June 9
New Delhi  -  June 11

The purpose of this group is to make traditional music and dance of Goa such as Dekhni, Dulpod, Dhalo and Mando known to wider audiences and to motivate young Goans born abroad to identify themselves with their ancestral roots and culture.

Shri Faleiro also introduced Prof Eugenio Viassa Monteiro, a Goan settled in Lisbon. He is the President of the Portugal–India Friendship Society in Lisbon and is one of the founders of the Portuguese business school, AESE, where he was General Director and professor for more than 17 years. Prof. Monteiro is an eminent economist who has written extensively on economic developments and authored several articles, essays and books in Portugal and Spain. His latest book is "O Despertar da India" (The Rise of India). It has been published in the Portuguese and Spanish languages. An English edition will be published soon.
