GULF-GOANS e-NEWSLETTER (since 1994)

Referee Franky Fernandes for Kuwait

Goa's FIFA assistant referee Franky Fernandes has been appointed to officiate
in an International tournament in Kuwait.

Upon the request of the Kuwait Football Federation, the All India Football
Federation (AIFF) has recommended Franky for the prestigious assignment.
Teams from the Gulf countries as well as from Africa are participating in the
tournament, which has reached the quarter-final stage.

Franky will have to stay for more than 15 days till the conclusion of the
tournament and the Colva-born official was naturally elated.  At the moment I
cannot express my feelings. It's fantastic. It really surprised me. It'll be a
great learning experience as well as a good exposure for me to tougher
competitions, a joyful Franky told The Navhind Times, just before making the
last arrangements for the Gulf trip.

It may be noted that Franky earlier has officiated in the Maldives National
League with distinction and was also requested by the Maldives Football
Federation to officiate in the Maldives Super Cup at Male National Stadium in
2008.
