Dear All,

Many of you enquired about the status of the Goan boy who had a mishap recently in one of the local schools.

Here is an e-mail dated today 25 November 2010 from his father Mr. Bhanudas Sawant.

As I said before, when two elephants fight the grass suffers.

I hope the election results on 27 November 2010 will bring out a leader of the people, for the people and by the people.

I reiterate my wish to have a Security Guard in each school that is prone to such accidents. The funds to come out from the government grants, so that the principal knows where the shoe pinches. Multiculturalism should start from the schools. Hope the party elected pays heed to these wishes of the people.

School should be a place where a child is safe from bullying, and there should be no place in our society for this to continue.

Money would be better spent if “Family value revolution” was greater than “Education revolution”

Subject: Big job done

Dear Oscar,

This is to express my gratitude for the great job done to bring my family back to normal, post the attack on my son at CARWATHA COLLEGE campus, Noble Park, on 18th Oct. 2010. It is your greatness that you remained with us, available all the time, helping my son for over a month.

As I am new to this country and without much knowlege of the land, it's people and the administration, It would have been very difficult to handle this situation without your support. I moved in this country for a higher standard of living and for better quality of life. Rise in street crime as witnessed in recent times is becoming a growing concern for families like us. The intrusion of criminal culture in the school campus is an alarming situation, which needs urgent attention from all, to nip this problem in budding stage.

It will be sad to note that at the end of treatment of eye injury to my son, he will be left with a permanent disability as a fallout of this incident at school, only for being innocent. He will have to live with this problem for rest of his life. In absence of adequate legislations and policy; the bully and the school are much better off than the victim. The bully is back in another school and school have little liabilty for what had happened on it's campus. Although, the Lawyer provided by you is helping me to take off some stress of my family.

It is your untiring efforts, that this incident matter is in the office of policymakers, legislators, administrators and social workers in the goverment and out of Government, awaiting their actions on this issue. I must appreciate, the time spend by you to speak to the concerned authorities directly or through emails to bring this issue to their individual attention and mobilising opinion for an appropriate solution. After your initiative, the local M.P. has offered to help, the police have speeded investigation and community support started flowing as the news reached every corner.

I am sure you will continue to work more on the resolution of the complex issue of bullying faced by schools, by using your strong contacts and leadership skills, to get an appropriate legislation and policy for the safety and high levels of morality among our children at the school.

Thanking you once again,

Bhanudas Sawant
