Goa Register First Swine Flu Death

First H1N1 death in Goa; Karwar man dies at GMC
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, AUG 30
Goa recorded its first swine flu death with the Health Department confirming
that a
man who died on Friday had the H1N1 virus infection.
Officials in the Department who refused to be named, stated that the man from
Karwar was admitted in Goa Medical College early this week.
“He had swine flu symptoms and was admitted in the isolation ward. He breathed
his
last on Friday”, officials said.
The swab report received from Delhi today was found to be positive for H1N1
virus.
Meanwhile, the officials confirmed that there were two more positive cases
found in Goa. “The number of positive cases has now gone up to 29”, officials
said.
The officials refused to provide any further details of the person who died or
the condition
of other patients admitted in hospital saying they were not authorised to
disclose
anything to the media.
Surprisingly, Dr D’Sa who has been appointed nodal officer for swine flu was
not
available for comment.
He, according to a relative -- who picked up the phone — was busy due to his
father’s death anniversary, at Divar, and had not carried his cell phone.
PTI ADDS: The country continued to battle swine flu with a UK national among
128 persons testing positive today.
