It was rare occasion when the divided Goan community leaders sunk their differences to share a common platform. And, what better way and occasion then the feast of Saint Francis Xavier to display the unity show. But for some reasons the unified effort did not get the publicity it deserved neither in cyber space nor in the local print in Qatar.
Here is the report which one of the organizers forwarded to my mail. REPORT: Goan Community in Qatar Celebrated feast of the Patron St. F. X with great pomp and much gaiety on 3rd December 2009. Soon after the feast mass all with their festive attire gathered in the Al Andalus hall for the evening celebration/function with selected music carefully chosen by two DJ's Domnic and Paul Fernandes entirely to the taste of all those who attended the function. DJ Paul beside his selected music also rendered some Konkani and English numbers to the entire satisfaction of the crowed on the floor. There was a variety of dancing music, from rock to masala. Mr Simon D'Silva compered the show. The entry of the show was controlled by Mr. Antonio Joao Vaz and Melwyn Fernandes. The function started with the cutting of the cake by the organizers followed by Mr. Rosario Dias speech on the subject Goeamkaramcho Ekvott. After that in dedication to the great Saint and Patron of Goa a hyum was sung ‘Goemcho Saib” joyously by the organizers in his honour. The enthusiasm was such that it was completely an atmosphere that one really felt as he is in Goa, The highlight of the evening was the Novelty dance variety of prizes such as LCD TV, DVD, water dispensers, watches, electric kittles, juicers, Micro oven, glass ware etc.. were given away to the people both on the floor as well as to the rest of the attendees. Baba Collinson was the lucky winner in the children category. A bingo game was part of the evening entertainment conducted by Mathew Estrocio and the lucky winners were given away attractive prizes. There was also lucky entrance prize. Goans are said to be lover of music and they really proved that by being on the floor continuously even least bordering about their dinner, both the DJ’S Domnic and Paul entertained and kept the crowed on their feet with their melodious tunes and music, crowed on the floor always kept demanding for more and more music. All the organizing committee members worked very hard to add color to the function as per the duties entrusted to their care and thus made the show a grand success. Finally, organizers take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors all those who landed their helping hand and to those who attended the function and helped us to make the evening a very special one. May our Patron Saint Francis Xavier bless us all and our families abundantly. The Organizing committee comprised as follows: Rosario Dias (headed the committee) Melwin Baretto Antonio Joao Vaz Simon D’Silva John De Sa Paul Fernandes, Mathew Estrocio Melwin Fernandes Teodore Colaco Agnelo Rodrigues
