It would appear that there are two die hard schools of thought on Goanet - a
pro-God camp and a pro-science camp. It is a classic case of "East is East
and West is West and never the twain shall meet.
...> I do not wish to join the thread, but I will just pass on two quotes by well
known and highly regarded savants:
> "If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him" Voltaire

"I am convinced that He (God) does not play dice." and "God is subtle but he
is not malicious." Albert Einstein

These quotes are offered without comment but with the hope that each of the
camps - pro-God and pro-Science- will mull over them and interpret them as
they will to support their theory and give us on Goanet many more hours of
entertainment.

**My contention is not based on the quotes of authors like Voltaire or scientists like Albert Einstein.
It is interesting, however, to have them in different contexts:

a.. "Si Dieu n'existait pas, il faudrait l'inventer." Mais toute la nature nous crie qu'il existe; qu'il y a une intelligence suprême, un pouvoir immense, un ordre admirable, et tout nous instruit de notre dépendance. a.. "If God did not exist, he would have to be invented." But all nature cries aloud that he does exist: that there is a supreme intelligence, an immense power, an admirable order, and everything teaches us our own dependence on it. a.. Voltaire (this was the pen name of François-Marie Arouet (1694-11-21--1778-05-300, better known by his pen name Voltaire, a French writer, deist and philosopher, quoting himself in his Letter to Prince Frederick William of Prussia (1770-11-28), translated by S.G.Tallentyre, Voltaire in His Letters, 1919.
b.. A little story about Voltaire:
Voltaire, notorious for his hatred of Christianity, spent his whole life attacking Christianity. He had a house in Paris, France. He would invite very learned and clever people to his house. They were like him - scoffers, doubters, atheists and agnostics. They would sit round the table - eating, drinking and making merry - when their conversation would always be against God and against the Christian faith - scoffing at the Bible, deriding believers and Christians and calling religion as a whole, a waste of time. One day as his servants were putting the plates and cutlery in position on the table where Voltaire was entertaining his guests, his guests began to scoff at Christianity in the hearing of the servants. Voltaire immediately rose up from his seat. He pushed all the servants out of the room and locked the door. He said: "If you let these people hear that, they will become as savage as lions. Shhh! Quiet," he said. "It's all very well for us to say these things among one another but if these people hear us scoffing at their religion, they won't obey a word I tell them because religion is what makes them good." Wasn't that a confession from a man who spent his whole life scoffing at Christianity? But it's true, it's absolutely true: believing in God makes all the difference to the way people live.

--- Albert Einstein also found God in the harmony of the cosmos.

c.. There is no conflict between Science and God. East is already meeting the West...
 Regards.
