Sponsor’s teen son rapes Indian maid
KUWAIT CITY : In a shocking incident, an Indian maid from Goa was reportedly
raped by the 13-year-old son of her sponsor, a reliable source informed the
Arab Times on Wednesday.
The twenty-seven-year-old maid, who was employed with a Kuwaiti household in
Surra, brought the incident to the notice of her sponsor and the latter flew
into rage before accusing the maid of fabricating the story.
The source added that the furious father defended his son saying that he was
“too young to rape a woman.” The boy is said to have categorically denied the
allegations. The helpless maid then ran away from the sponsor’s house and
sought her embassy’s assistance.
The maid, who had been working for the sponsor for over five years, has refused
to file a complaint against the boy but has sought immediate repatriation. She
is presently lodged at the shelter of the embassy.
Kuwait is home to some 250,000 Indian domestic workers even as the Indian
government has banned maids below the age of 30 from taking up jobs overseas.
In another incident, an Indonesian maid was raped by her sponsor in Fahaheel
and the lady managed to escape and reported the incident to her embassy, a
source said.
The source said that the maid arrived in Kuwait over one year ago and was
employed with a Kuwaiti household. Unhappy with her pace of work, the sponsor
returned her to the agency two months ago.
She was then hired by the accused who raped her and threatened to harm her if
she disclosed the incident to anyone. The source said that the embassy is
pursuing the matter and a case is expected to be filed soon.
In an effort to improve the working conditions of the domestic helpers, the
local authorities are planning to establish a Domestic Workers Company that
will be solely assigned to recruit maids.
