Indian Elections 2009 - An intellectual challenge to the orientation of the New Indian Government Jump to Comments The last phase of the voting of India’s fifteenth national elections since its independence in 1947 will be over by 13th May 2009.The final verdict will be out on 16th May 2009. More than 700 million eligible voters will decide the shape and the fate of the outcome of 2009 Indian elections. The moot question is- Is there an obvious favorite to win the election? Predictions are impossible why? Indian politics, once dominated by the Congress Party, is now increasingly dominated by small and regional parties representing regional, sectional, or caste-based interests. These small regional parties concentrate on local issues. The Indian politics has of late been increasingly dominated by the coalitions that many times make it very difficult to move legislation through parliament. Thus the orientation of the Indian government after May 16th elections results would be an unprecedented challenge.
