LENNY MAKES GOANBOXING PROUD
Elvidio Miranda
Every time an Indian origin individual is appointed to some high office abroad,
his or her name is heaped with praise in every Indian newspaper. Olympics is
held once every leap year and this year the Tokyo Olympics is to be held in
July, postponed because of the pandemic, In boxing it is a matter great pride
that Lenny da Gama of the Goa Boxing Association has been appointed as an
Evaluator, a senior official that overseas referees and judges. Lenny has been
appointed in fact as the Asian representative. Lenny officiated at the London
Olympics in 2012 and has at least four decades of boxing experience, first as a
boxer himself and then rose through the ranks to become an international
official. Hard work, dedication and devotion to boxing in Goa has finally paid
rich dividends for Lenny da Gama, a son of the soil. Like in any other sport to
be appointed as a senior-level official is an effort requiring sheer will power
and single-mindedness dedication and passion for the sport. On behalf of all
Goans, here's wishing him all the success in his Olympic assignment.
