CD #2 “The UNF Sessions” (the 1st professional release from the newly created UNF Recording Studio) presents pianists Jeff Phillips & Joshua Bowlus on acoustic piano, Arturo Sandoval bassist Dennis Marks, drummer Clyde Connor, & 2 tunes with guest virtuoso guitarist Barry Greene. Lisa, JB, and former leader of the “Airmen of Note,” trombonist Dave Steinmeyer, are featured throughout the 2-CD project. ABOUT THIS PROJECT: For several years now, we’ve wanted to record “live” our renditions of a few favorite tunes. Since our first gigs together at the 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival, JB & I have had the true pleasure of working with so many fine jazz musicians throughout Florida, the U.S, Canada, on Caribbean & other cruises, & in Europe-from new names on the scene to historic notables. CD projects are meant to showcase the musical growth & creativity of artists, this is our 6th release. The fellow musicians on this project have been our most consistent companions these last few years in our Modern small group, developing musical repertoire & enjoying amazing gigs together. The distinguished former 28 year leader of the “Airmen of Note,” highly respected trombonist Dave Steinmeyer is legendary for his sound, range, & long history of where he’s performed & whom he’s performed with. Pianist Jeff Phillips has played with a gamut of major artists, & is known for his amazingly vast knowledg e of tun es & extraordinary multi-skills on keyboards, pedal bass & piano. Joshua Bowlus is a pianist with a blossoming career, dedicated to interesting spontaneity, sensitive & beautiful harmonic creativity. 16 years & counting with trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, an accomplished composer & teacher, Dennis Marks is quite simply one of the best bassists in the business today. Formally with the “Navy Commodores,” featured on many recordings & stages, from countless major studio sessions to festivals, Clyde Connor is that ‘next level’ of regarded drummers. Virtuoso guitarist Barry Greene engineered the recording of CD #2 The UNF Sessions. Barry had played on my 1997 debut solo CD, By Request, so it was a real treat to have him involved & to play on this project as well.
