Man gets life for sexual abuse of daughter DH News Service,Panaji: A father of three has been sentenced to life for sexually abusing his minor daughter for years. DNA test provided the clinching evidence, and the Goa Children's Court did not grant any leniency after tests confirmed that he had fathered his daughter's child. The case has shocked the South Goa village and came to light on a neighbour's complaint to the police. The trial court has withheld the man's name to protect the girl's identity. Nothing less than life imprisonment would meet the ends of justice, Judge Desmond D'Costa felt. The father had taken undue advantage of his own daughter and destroyed the atmosphere of trust and faith. "These acts go contrary to the protection and safety that the victim child should have had in her own house," he said. The 16-year-old victim who now has a baby to look after, testified against her father and asked that he be punished with a life term. The abuse began soon after the man's wife, sickened by his alcoholism, left him six years ago. The convicted man has two other minor children, but the trial court dismissed pleas for leniency saying the abuse was the "most humiliating events in the life of the victim."
