Hi All,
Was forced to go from Calangute to Mapusa to buy some medicine this afternoon
(1.30PM to be precise). It had just rained a bit since this morning and it was
raining, not heavy at all, while I was driving. Reaching Bodgeshwar Temple,
rain water was already flowing over the road there while the underpass for the
water was totally clogged with rubbish. What a sight!!!
Mapusa Market??? Couldn't get to the line of shops without having to jump from
the road onto the walkway. Heavily flooded. Some shops are already getting set
to have water upto their doorstep. Didn't get into the fruit market, mucky and
flooded already.
This is just the first day with a couple of hours of rain. What is to come
during the forthcoming months of monsoon is predictable. Our Mapusa Municipal
Lords have their shops there, they can see what is happenning, but cannot do
anything and surely will not do anything even if they can. So sad is the story
of Goa, better kept unwritten for shameful reasons.
Time spent in getting organized for bunds related to MoI, etc could be better
spent across the table devising ways to solve day to day problems and getting
ready for the rains, but no, election is closing in on us...............
God Save Goa
Agnelo Fernandes
