MESSAGE ON THE OCCASION OF EID-UL-FITR
With joy we extend our greetings to the Muslim Community in Goa on this
happy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, at the end of the month-long fast and prayer.
This is the happy time when the mind and the heart are exposed to God and
the human spirit is imbued with the divine spirit, together with its values.
It is in this context that the Vatican, in its Message on this occasion,
focused on the family, that place where we are born and brought up to
journey on this earth. The family is where we are nurtured with a beautiful
vision for the world and are strengthened with the stamina to build a good
relationship with God, our neighbours and the society at large. May the
occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr be a moment when, full of these divine values, we
commit ourselves to work together to build a society - our larger family --
characterized by harmony and respect for one another's beliefs.
