Book on opinion poll to be released today HERALD NEWS BUREAU PANJIM, APRIL 17 Union Minister of Culture, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja will release the book ‘Triumph of Secularism’ at Goa Marriott Resort on April 18. Selja will release the book in the presence of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat. The book ‘Triumph of Secularism’ is based on the historic Opinion Poll of Goa of 1967. The book is brought out by Dattaraj V Salgaocar, Chairman of Goa Publications Pvt Ltd, Publisher of ‘Sunaparanta’ and ‘Goa Today’, in memory of his father late V M Salgaocar, who openly fought for the preservation of Goa’s unique identity against the pro-merger forces. Goa Publications had earlier publ ished the book ‘Goa: Aparanta - Land Beyond the End’. This book is written by Rajan Narayan, a veteran journalist, and Dr Sharon D’Cruz, a Professor of History, on the basis of meticulous and exhaustive research, and edited by Victor Rangel-Ribeiro. The book is the most authoritative book on the ‘Opinion Poll’ which captures in lucid style the determined fight put up by Goans to resist the merger with Maharashtra. It shows in no uncertain terms that the final victory of the people of Goa was possible because of united efforts of the majority and minority communities in spite of the communal divide that was attempted. It also highlights the commitment of the Nehru-Gandhi family to the preservation of Goa’s unique identity.
