The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) has directed Sandhya Hoble wife of BJP leader Anil Hoble to immediately stop business activity of her "Hoble River Lounge" Bar & Restaurant on the Panaji - Ribandar causeway. The CCP has also removed the sign boards that were displayed by Hoble.
The CCP in its notice served on Sandhya Hoble has stated that in view of the show cause notice issued by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and the stop work order that had earlier been issued by Panaji Deputy Collector, the Occupation and Trade licence earlier issued to her has now been kept in abeyance. Sandhya Hoble in a letter to the Director of Food and Drugs Administration has stated that the structure housing the restaurant that was inaugurated on 1st April was over 50 years old and existing much prior to the CRZ regulations coming into force. Pleading that she be allowed to run the restaurant, t Sandhya Hoble has in her letter further stated that she had already incurred a lot of expenditure for starting the restaurant and that more importantly the huge stock of fruits, meat and fish lying unused will perish causing irreparable financial loss to her. Since they are in public life, Anil and Sandhya Hoble should for once do some charity and give away those fruits, meat and fish to the poor. Interestingly Anil Hoble in a letter to the GCZMA has denied any illegal construction in violation of the CRZ regulations while claiming that his structure including the compound wall had been in existence since the Portuguese regime. As per the CCP the original house tax file pertaining to the Anil Hoble premises is untraceable as it has gone missing. Anil Hoble is currently paying a mere Rs 100 per year by way of house tax as it is assessed as a residential premises despite four trade licenses having been issued by the CCP. The CCP has issued Sandhya Hoble four trade licences at the same premises which include sale of lubricants & oils, a garage for repair of vehicles, a whole sale wine mart and now the Bar & Restaurant. How has Anil Hoble been paying a mere Rs 100 a year as house tax in the guise of residential premises where four trade licenses had been issued for commercial activity, No wonder the CCP is in financial doldrums struggling with a deficit budget. The illegal structure built by Anil Hoble should be demolished and no business or commercial activity be allowed on the Panaji - Ribandar causeway as it is a very accident prone with hundreds of fatal accidents on that road over the years. Ironically a few years ago Anil Hoble's brother was also killed in an accident there. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar needs to explain as to how he on 1st April inaugurated Anil Hoble's Bar & Restaurant despite having been informed that the structure was illegal and also without a Bar license. The authorities however were prompt enough to shut the place. The government officers are now under pressure from the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to allow the place to re-open. Shame on you Mr. Chief Minister. Is this the Good governance and Zero tolerance to corruption you promised us? Does the rule of the jungle prevail for those affiliated to the BJP?
