Speaking after his victory, Mr Vaz said: "Jeremy Corbyn did a great job despite all the criticism."
He added: "If Theresa May does not increase the number of seats for the Conservative Party then I think she would have to consider her position, as would any sitting Prime Minister."
Mr Vaz added that the national result would also have a significant impact on the pending Brexit negotiations.
