The saga of the post graduates students at Goa Medical College (GMC) seems to be revealing and mind boggling with very disturbing facts.
The seven committee of GMC doctors which on 24th June finalized the selected list of students comprised amongst others of Dr. Mahesh Sardesai, the father-in-law of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s elder son Utpal. In the list released amongst the students selected was Gaurav Mahesh Sardesai the son of Dr Mahesh Sardesai. It was imperative that Dr Mahesh Sardesai should have recused from being a part of the committee which was finalizing the admission of his own son. I am sure that if Manohar Parrikar was Leader of the Opposition and the case pertained to a student who was not his family or friend, he would have rabidly raised a ruckus over such a blatant conflict of interest. Now one understands why the Advocate General was behaving hysterically in Court and outside Court! This whole issue which has been rottenly mismanaged by the Goa Government is now before the Supreme Court. This ordeal and chaos that the students are facing could not have happened without the hand of the Advocate General who was barking orders to the officials outside the Courtroom to immediately prepare the list by that evening and even to displace those who had already commenced the course on the basis of NEET result. There can be no doubt that the Supreme Court will now rap the Goa Government hard for acting high-handedly and in clear contempt of Court. This malafied conduct of the government is very sad for the democratic set-up. The youth are the future of our nation and their educational aspirations cannot be manipulated by such blatant misuse of power and State machinery. God save Goa.
