Is the Kala Bhavan constructed at Sancoale to entertain the Goans or Non-Goans? ==================================================== VASCO: The village of Sancoale will soon have a Kala Bhavan within its jurisdiction. Conceptualized to be an entertainment zone for the Mormugao taluka, the bhavan - the first of its kind - plans to fulfill the demands of people in the Cortalim constituency. A team of experts comprising senior bureaucrats and panchayat officials accompanied the deputy speaker Mauvin Godinho at an inspection of the site. The Kala Bhavan is proposed to be constructed opposite Upas Nagar adjacent NH 17B. Speaking about the project, Godinho said, "Goans are outgoing and talented people who look for different mediums for creative expression. The Kala Bhavan will provide an able platform for people residing in the Mormugao taluka," said Godinho. The foundation stone for the proposed Kala Bhavan will be laid on August 2, 2008 by chief minister Digambar Kamat and will be constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). Proposed to be built upon an area of over 18,000 square meters, the bhavan will take approximately two years to complete at a projected cost of Rs 22 crore. The complex will comprise a state-of-the-art 750 seater auditorium, an outdoor amphitheater and a convention centre. With his focus clearly on Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions (MICE), Godinho said, "We intend to cater to clientele such as the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) which is based in nearby Verna and host conferences regularly". Plans for a 12,000 square meter indoor stadium in the neighborhood are also in the offing.
