Dear Miguel,

Thanks for your mail. Yes, Loyola HS is so very close and dear to my heart and
i was quite intimidated by something written not so dear about the saint
himself and my alma mater.
Also to add to the list of the renowned teachers out there, my sister Ms
Francisca da Costa is the head of the computer section out there and it is
indeed a matter of great pride for me.

It was at LHS, under principals like the late Fr Castellino, then Fr Savio
Rodrigues that i honed my skills and talents, which made me quite a bold and
fearless students leader of my day and i went on to hold valuable positions
like the chairman of the students council at RMS higher secondary and then the
students council gen secretary (GS) at Damodar college. i held the distinct
record of being a class representative for all the five years of college life
and was also felicitated by the Youth Congress at Margao.

Later on in life the teachings at Loyola HS helped me in life in starting my
journalistic career at an early age of 18, having my own event organising co,
and also being a compere and dj. i am currently a corporate credit manager at
Barclays bank in Dubai, after having served 9 years in yet another British,
Lloyds TSB bank.

You must have gone through my writings on Goanet, Herald and Goan Observer also.

I was once at the LESA dinner nite organised by Fr Hector at Longuinos Beach
Resort, Colva.
I was in my capacity as a professional compere given the charge to co-host the
evening with Mr Robin Barros, a fellow Margao Junior Chamber member then.

The evening was totally spoilt and totally taken over by some unscrpulous
elements and to add insult to injury -- the hon minister then, Francisco
Sardinha, was so sozzled that he was making open passes at ladies, (despite his
wife being an attendee of that function) at such an event.

Further one sozzled, Triffio Pacheco, former Margao Baskeeters captain, and an
ex-student, unceremoniously snatched the mike away while I was to take up the
next set of the day, and wound the function prematurely -- the musician being
Chris -- the one man band.

The reason was simple, i had got a lot of publicity as a Dubai-based
professional compere and Trifi who was also into showbiz in Goa then, didn't
want to give me any mileage, not that i wanted it, even at that hour of my
career.

Such was the organisation...

Triffi's action smelt of pure arrogance and indecence and i will want to add
that a certain class and caste factor prevailed that nite.

I since decided to stay away from an organisation called LESA, but my reverence
for the school and the saint (whose big day is close on July 31) is always dear
to my heart.
But since all this is water under the bridge now for me and i have moved on to
bigger and better organisations in life and in the world, i will reconsider
your suggestion to join LESA again, as i understand the politically motivated
individuals are no longer there in LESA anymore.

My sincere thanks Mr Miguel and hope and pray that politics never enters
organisations like LESA.

I also hold St Britto's as one of the most premier institutions in Goa and
always loved the beautiful scenic location, like the St Xaviers College at
Mapusa.

Long live Loyola HS!

Dears,
Whatever the name of the Saint may be, the registered name of the
Jesuit school in Margao is LOYOLA HIGH SCHOOL. Fr. William Rodrigues
sj is the Principal/HM and Fr.Cedric Fernandes sj is the
Vice-Principal. Both of them are alumni of the Jesuit school in which
I studied, St.Britto High School, Mapusa...so named in 1946, a full
four years before John de Britto was canonized as Saint!!
If Cedric is an alumnus of Loyola HS, it would be nice if he joins its
Alumni Association..LESA, the Loyola Ex-Students' Asociation in time
for the feast of its patron saint on 31 July. Contact
