TIATR SEASON IN GOA 2009:

The rush for the bonanza of the Konkani box office begins with the commencement
of yet another long, exciting tiatr season in Goa on Easter Sunday.

Twelve of Goa's premier commercial theatre playwrights have announced their
schedule and plans are open at theatres in Goa's major towns and villages.

Among the topnotch playwright-director's, Prince Jacob is releasing Vivas' on
April 12 at Panchwadi. As usual, Prince Jacob has a couple of surprises in
store. His fans are eagerly looking forward to the debut of his 10-year-old son
Jr Prince Jason, in this show. Along with Jason, another new comer - Alice also
joins Prince Jacob's troupe this season. Visvas' is a tiatr' by all counts and
will showcase 12 songs, besides lilting cantos. All that Prince Jacobs says is,
"Let the people judge my show, and also the performance of my son Jason, whom I
am introducing on the Konkani stage.
"Roseferns, better known on the Konkani stage as the King of Centuries', is the
lone exception with no show in Goa for Easter 2009. His play Mhaka Kiteak
Poddlam' will be premiered in Dubai on April 16, with another show the
following day in Kuwait. Thereafter the troupe returns for regular performances
in Goa from April 22. The tiatr, with a complement of 10 songs and five cantos,
besides the opening song, will also be staged in various villages. Declining to
give away much on the play's theme, Rose Ferns said "like all my recent plays,
this one too is based on Goa and Goans".

Playwright and director Mario Menezes kicks off the season with a suspense
thriller 'Love Story 2009' on Sunday in Ponda. Obviously, the theme revolves
around a love story. "This time it's a different story altogether, and not like
my earlier plays which were based on family stories," said Menezes. Love Story
2009' has 14 songs, besides 6 kantos. Victor, who excelled as child artiste
earlier, teams up with Mario this season. Kuwait-based Michael D'Silva will
render two solos in this show. The music will be provided by Agost de
Panchwadi.

Comedian Agostinho, last two seasons' most successful director, produces a
sequel to his show Police'. Police - 2' has more than 50 confirmed dates,
beginning Sunday at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanvordem, followed by another show at
Anjuna later in the evening. Surprisingly, Agostinho says he will stage Police'
(Part I) simultaneously bowing to public demand.

Playwright and comedian John D'Silva, well known for flowery prose, will be
releasing Devull' on April 12 at Tilamol in Quepem.

Milagres de Chandor a big draw on the Konkani stage during the last three
seasons - is set to test Tallio Marat', at the Kala Academy, Panaji on Sunday.
Besides his regular artistes, he boasts of three prolific singers - Lawry
Travasso, Marcus Vaz and Francis de Tuem. However, these much sought after
singers will perform only in the cities.

Having tasted success with his earlier show Builder', comedian Ambe is set to
give tiatr lovers something unique in Rinnam', at Dabolim on Sunday.

Double Century King' Menino de Bandar takes off with Jiv' on Sunday at Arossim.
Francis de Tuem and Marcus Vaz will perform for Bandar, but again only in the
cities. Anil-Olga's Ek Dhago Sukhacho' is slated for release on Sunday at
Utorda.

Prince of Centuries' Pascoal Rodrigues is set to release his 46th production
Faleam Udetelem?' at Sanguem on Sunday. Maxcy Pereira, who excels in tragedy,
will also unveil his Amche-i Anvdde' on Sunday at the Kala Academy.

Comedian 64 will release Tthikann' on Sunday, while Remy will take off with
Jivit Dilam' on the same day at GVN Margao. Socorro de St Cruz will continue
with his tiatr Hanv Porot ietelim' till May, as will Kala Academy Award winner
Alfie de Divar with Pull'llam'.

The competition ahead this season may not necessarily be intense, but certainly
playwrights will jostle with each other to make an impact with the audience.
The ultimate verdict, however, rests with the tiatr-going audience, which has
matured over the years.
